April 14th - May 5th
Tuesdays: 10:00am - 11:30am

Most adults didn’t make a conscious decision to stop being creative. It simply drifted out of daily life, crowded out by obligations, routines, and constant demands on our attention.
This course is an invitation to bring creativity back in a low-pressure, welcoming way. No background in art is required. No artistic skill is assumed. The focus is on curiosity, experimentation, and the simple pleasure of making and noticing.
Over four weeks, participants work with accessible materials, engaging prompts, and supportive group activities. We explore creativity in ways that are playful, surprising, and free from performance. There is no focus on talent or technique and no pressure to produce “good art.” There are no grades, no critiques, and no expectations of prior experience.
Who This Course Is For
• Artists looking for fresh inspiration
• People who once loved making things and stopped
• Those who believe they “aren’t creative”
• Anyone who wants to keep their mind curious and engaged
Each weekly session introduces new prompts and themes, allowing participants to return and continue their creative exploration.

About the Instructor
Chris Watts
Chris Watts brings a lifetime of artistic pursuit and professional design experience to her teaching. Accredited in graphic design in California, she spent 20 years in corporate marketing before relocating to Virginia in 2000, followed by eight years as a graphic artist at The News Leader newspaper in Staunton. Throughout her career, she has continued studying with accomplished instructors, refining her practice and expanding her visual language. Chris is a member of CoArt Gallery here in Staunton. Her artwork is collected both nationally and abroad.
Working primarily in abstraction, Chris is especially drawn to collage for its quiet magic—the way translucent papers and layered surfaces can create an illusion of depth and atmosphere. She is fascinated by how simple materials, handled with intention, open into unexpected visual space.
In the classroom, she creates a welcoming, well-structured environment where artists at different stages feel encouraged to explore and grow.
