Art Camps for Kids!

Sessions for ages 5-8 are filled for weeks 1,3, and 4. Other sessions are filling quickly, so register soon!

Each summer, the Staunton Augusta Art Center offers SUMMER STUDIO week-long art day camp sessions for kids (ages 5-12+). Campers engage in hands-on projects in an art history context, develop necessary skills in the production of art, employ and expand their own creative thoughts, and deepen their understanding of and appreciation for the arts.

  • Each session is divided into three age groups:  5-8 year-olds, 9-11 year-olds, 12 years+

  • There are two, 2-hour sessions each day:  morning session (10am-Noon) and afternoon session (1-3pm).

  • Each session is $100 for the week, Monday through Friday. Students may enroll in one session or a full day.

  • Additionally, supervised lunch sessions will be available for an additional $10 per week (students are required to bring their own lunches and/or snacks).

  • All sessions will be held onsite in the R.R. Smith Center for History & Art, 20 S. New Street in downtown Staunton. Lunches will be held in our garden if weather permits

Morning Sessions and Weekly Themes

Afternoon sessions will be built on the morning themes and/or opened to students for free choice.

WEEK ONE:  June 16th - 20th

 

Age 5-8: Our young artists will discover the magic of printmaking and make their  own prints using surprising everyday objects.

 

Age 9-11: Students will gain insight into the art and cultural practices of ancient civilizations and demonstrate their learning through hands-on mixed media projects.

 

Age 12+:  Students will explore the natural world through unconventional media and creative techniques. (Part I)

WEEK TWO: June 23rd-27th

 

Age 5-8:  Students will develop a deeper appreciation and understanding of the natural environment by expressing observations and insights using unconventional or nontraditional art media.

 

Age 9-11:  Students will learn about the elements of art through sculpture allowing them to explore form, texture, space, line, shape, color, and value in a hands-on, engaging way.

 

Age 12+:  Students will explore the natural world through unconventional media and creative techniques. (Part II)

WEEK THREE: July 7th - 11th

 

Age 5-8:  Students will observe their surroundings and express their interpretations through original paintings, drawing inspiration from the world around them.

Age 9-11: Students will study the Post-Impressionist movement and create their own artwork inspired by the bold colors, textures, and emotional expression used by artists like Van Gogh, Matisse, and Picasso.

 

Age 12+: Students will explore the natural world through unconventional media and creative techniques. (Part III)

WEEK FOUR: July 14th - 18th

 

Age 5-8: Students will dive into the bold world of Pop Art by sculpting and printing their own vibrant masterpieces.

Age 9-11: Students will study about "Creative Rule Breakers" in art to encourage them to think outside the box and experiment.

Age 12+: Students will explore the natural world through unconventional media and creative techniques. (Part IV)

Registration

In order to register your child (or children) for camp, we must have the following contact information.  If you are enrolling more than one child, you may use one form or submit separately if preferred.

We have provided a space for you to leave any information you feel like we or the teachers should know about your child. We want this to be an exceptional experience for all involved, so the more we know the better!  Anything you share will remain confidential.
