SELECT PIECES BY

VIRGINIA BOTANICAL ARTISTS

April 8 - May 2, 2020

Sponsored by Amanda Avery

Botanical illustration is the art of depicting the form, color, and details of a plant species. Unlike floral art, which often incorporates added compositional features such as vases, bowls, backgrounds, or garden scenes, botanical illustration is void of such distractions. Plants are depicted in a concise manner – often against a white background – detailing specific botanical aspects such as the structure, growth habit, and life cycle of the plant with great accuracy while still capturing the beauty of the subject.

Artists included in this online gallery have exhibited widely in juried and invitational shows across the mid-Atlantic region. Many focus on plants native to the region.

The following exhibit is no longer active.  If you are interested in purchasing these or other pieces by Virginia botanical artists, please email Carolyn Maloney at director@saartcenter.org for artist contact information.
