The World of Louis Comfort Tiffany

In partnership with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, the Staunton Augusta Art Center is offering an all-day workshop, The World of Louis Comfort Tiffany, for teachers and others on Monday, August 9, 8:00am-3:30pm, at the R.R. Smith Center located at 20 S. New Street across from the visitor center and parking garage in historic downtown Staunton, Virginia.  There is no cost for the workshop which includes lunch.

The Institute includes an investigation into the life and times of glass artist Louis Comfort Tiffany, a field trip to Trinity Episcopal Church to view Tiffany windows, and hands-on lesson plans for teachers to include in their own curricula.  Area teachers are encouraged to take advantage of this professional development opportunity

Space permitting, anyone may register for the Institute to gain a more in-depth understanding and appreciation of the life and times of Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) known for his hand-blown glass vessels, leaded glass windows, and color-imbued lamps.  The Institute will be led by educators from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.  There is no charge for the Institute but registration is required by calling the Staunton Augusta Art Center at 540.885.2028 no later than July 30.

The Institute complements the special temporary exhibit Tiffany: Color and Light which is through August 15, 2010, at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond.

For more information about the Institute, please contact the Staunton Augusta Art Center executive director Beth Hodge at 540-885-2028.
