In partnership with
the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, the Staunton Augusta Art
Center is offering an all-day
workshop, The
World of Louis Comfort Tiffany, for teachers and others on Monday,
August 9, 8:00am-3:30pm, at the R.R. Smith Center located at 20 S. New
Street across from the visitor center and parking garage in
historic downtown Staunton, Virginia. There is no
cost for the
workshop which includes lunch.
The Institute
includes an investigation into the life and times of glass artist Louis
Comfort Tiffany, a field trip to Trinity Episcopal Church to view
Tiffany windows, and hands-on lesson plans for teachers to include in
their own curricula. Area teachers are encouraged to take
advantage of this professional
development opportunity.
Space permitting, anyone
may register for the Institute to
gain a more in-depth understanding and appreciation of the life and
times of Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) known for his hand-blown
glass vessels, leaded glass windows, and color-imbued lamps. The Institute
will be led by educators from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.
There is no charge for the Institute but registration
is required by calling the Staunton Augusta Art Center at 540.885.2028
no later than July 30.
The Institute
complements the special temporary exhibit Tiffany:
Color and Light which
is through August 15, 2010, at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in
Richmond.
